Books, books, never enough books

Who says books are on their way out?

Digital viewing may be handy, but nothing beats holding a beautiful tome in your hands.

Walking into a library automatically increases my pulse. The possibilities!

I just ran across The Library: A World History by James WP Campbell, just published a few weeks ago. If you're like me, this will make a perfect gift for the holiday gift giving. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

It is available for purchase here.

  1. I agree - digital reading is fabulous, especially for newspaper type media - but nothing will ever replace the joy of holding a beautiful book. Like an old friend, it gets better with time.

  2. I agree with you Glamour and Annie. and I too get that pulse-quickening rush just entering the library - or the book store. There is a phrase -- The Stendhal Syndrome for the dizzy, rapid heart beat when exposed to art -- and I regard all those books as nothing short of literary art - immense visual beauty. sigh...
Recently, my husband & I just completed (for the most part) a guest room as library. I love it! THe most fantastic home library I visited this summer in East Hampton - the living room of the editor of Hamptons Magazine. It is jaw dropping.
Plus, I think cookbooks in particular - when done well with rich photos to tell the story in pictures of the link to the bounty of the land and sea -- like my Hamptons & Homegrown LI Cookbook, :) are books best experienced as the tactile, visual works of art - vs a digital.
Nice to hear from you, Annie. I missed you & your beautiful blog -- where have you been?

    1. That's so sweet! I just opened a fragrance boutique (see 11-11's post) which has kept me busier than busy. It's nice to be back!

  3. Wrote about this on my blog not too long ago. I can't pass up a bookstore , new or used! Loved the article.
