This is a little gem of a book. A real sleeper. Written by Australian stylist Pia Jane Bijkerk, we are taken on a trip around Paris, meandering in each arrondisement to discover the sometimes hidden ateliers and workshops of the city's treasured artisans.
The author's focus on fait main, French for handmade, also extends to giving found, vintage objects a restyling or restoring and, thus, a new life. "...Paris may very well be one of the last remaining international cities that strives to protect and nurture her artisans."
Some of the artisans and ateliers include a restorer of paper art, an umbrella repair shop, jewelry designers and a shop devoted to the art of writing.
Pia Jane Bijkerk has another charming book published this year, Amsterdam: Made By Hand.
Both are available here.
